LOS ANGELES - A Los Angeles County sheriff's captain is under investigation after he allegedly took an inmate - who happened to be a former golf pro - to a nearby golf course to give him tips on his game.

Frank Carrillo, 41, was serving time for various cash and jewelry thefts, including stealing a World Series ring from a former Dodger at a golfing event. That is when Capt. Jeff Donahue allegedly took him to a course on Catalina Island.

Carrillo tells the Los Angeles Times that he helped Donahue improve his swing and reduce his handicap.

Donahue is now on medical leave and is being investigated for having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate, reports the Times.

According to Deputy William Cordero, who filed the complaint against Donahue, the captain said his outing with Carrillo had been approved by Sheriff Lee Baca. However, it is a charge Baca's office denied to the Times.
