Spring Valley man charged with DWI after hit-run that injured 2
NEW HEMPSTEAD — A 43-year-old Spring Valley man has been charged with felony drunken driving following a hit-run accident Tuesday in which two people were injured, police said today.
Ronald Deans was arrested following the 6:25 p.m. collision on New Hempstead Road, Sgt. Martin Reilly said in a news release.
Shimon Krishewsky, 22, of Brooklyn, and his passenger, Chaya Chanowitz, 22, of Spring Valley, were treated at Nyack Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Cars driven by Deans and Krishewsky collided head-on in New Hempstead on New Hempstead Road at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, Reilly said.
Deans was heading north when his 1994 BMW went into the southbound lane, colliding with Krishewsky's 2011 Honda Accord, Reilly said.
Deans is accused of then leaving the accident scene on foot. Police canvassing the area found Deans and arrested him.
Deans was charged with a felony count of driving while intoxicated for a DWI conviction within the past 10 years, police said.
He also was charged with a felony count of first-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and second-degree vehicular assault, as well as a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a personal injury motor vehicle accident.
Deans was being held pending arraignment in the Ramapo police lockup.
