1 pedestrian killed, another critically injured in Larchmont area (KTLA-TV)


LOS ANGELES - A prominent Orthodox Jewish activist was killed and a local rabbi was critically injured when they were struck by a car in the Larchmont area.

The accident happened at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday at North La Brea Avenue and Oakwood Avenue. in front of Bais Yehuda Shul after they left the early Minyan.

80-year-old Dov Landau, a well-known Orthodox Jewish activist from Los Angeles, was killed.

Rabbi Shmuel Jacobs was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

They were hit in front of Bais Yehuda Shul after they left an early morning prayer service.

La Brea was closed between Rosewood and Beverly as police investigated.

Drivers were advised to take Detroit to the west or Sycamore to the east as alternates.
Both men were in a crosswalk when they were hit.

Police say the 27-year old driver stopped and called 911.

He was not arrested.

Investigators say it appears to have been a terrible accident.

The driver and victims were all part of a close knit Jewish Community.
