Elderly woman sexually assaulted in Central Park

The NYPD released this image of the suspect.

New York - An elderly bird watcher was sexually assaulted in Manhattan's Central Park on Wednesday morning, police said.

The NYPD said the attack took place at about 11 a.m. near West 74th St. The 73-year-old victim is reportedly a regular at the park and likes to watch birds.

Police said it is possible the woman may have seen the suspect before. A man who is believed to be the attacker exposed himself front of the to the woman about nine days ago. At that time, the woman took a photo of that man.

Police are trying to determine if that man is the same person from Wednesday's attack.

He stole her camera backpack, police said.

Another bird watcher found the woman lying on the ground near a path and called 911.

The woman told police that it sounded like the man had a Russian accent.

Police release security camera images of the suspect. The images show him wearing black pants, a black T-shirt, and white sneakers and holding one backpack and wearing another.
