At least five people injured in car crash near Radio City Music Hall

An apparently drunk Mercedes driver injured five after running a red light and slamming his luxury car into a hotel shuttle bus in front of Radio City Music Hall early Sunday.

The bus was heading east on 50th St. when it was broadsided by the silver Mercedes traveling uptown on Sixth Ave. about 4:45 a.m., officials said. The Mercedes blew through a red light, sources said.

The bus driver, a 55-year-old man, and his passengers, a 57-year-old man and three women, ages 45, 57 and 60, were taken to Bellevue Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, officials said. They had been on their way to a local airport.

The scene of the crash attracted a throng of onlookers Sunday morning.

“I don’t understand why people get into a car when they’ve been drinking, when there are a million yellow cabs in New York,” said Barbara Huberman, 71, a tourist from Washington, D.C.

“It’s just terrible. If you want to hurt yourself, that’s one thing. But what gives you the right to hurt someone else?”

Charges are pending against the Mercedes driver.
