Geoffrey Edelsten claims airport security forced his then-fiancee, 25-year-old Brynne Gordon, to strip down and pose for photographs
Australian customs ordered my wife 'to remove all her clothes, including underwear, and was photographed,' multimillionaire Geoffrey Edelsten claims of his then 25-year-old fiancee in his new book.
Mr Edelsten writes that the customs officers ordered his then-fiance Bryanne Gordon-Edelsten, who was an American fitness instructor, to strip naked and pose for both photos and video at her arrival in 2008.
Arriving to Australia for their wedding, a 'sniffer dog' allegedly stopped the blonde leading to her four-hour inspection at the Melbourne International Airport, according to the Sunday Telegraph's review of his book.
Mr Edelsten, a Melbourne-born doctor who was unregistered of his status and jailed in 1990 for hiring a man to attack a former patient but who made millions off his clinics, writes about the ordeal in his new autobiography titled Enigma, to be published this week.
I asked her what had happened in Customs. She said that a sniffer dog wouldn't leave her alone. This was followed by a formal search and on finding nothing, she was asked to remove all her clothes, including underwear, and was photographed,' he wrote, according to the Telegraph.
In the formal note of apology that she received, it stated that the photographs would be destroyed after one year,' Mr Edelsten continued.
A 'humiliating' experience for Mrs. Gordon-Edelsten, who's now 28, her search was confirmed by a publicist after the Mrs wished to not comment further on the ordeal.
Australian Customs confirmed to the Telegraph their method of photographing and recording travellers during strip-searches if suspected of having any kind of prohibited substances on their body.
Forty-eight travellers have gone through the same process as Mrs Gordon-Edelsten between 2010 and 2011.
A spokeswoman for Mrs Gordon-Edelsten told the Telegraph:
They took video and still photographs. Brynne still has the note and the DVD. She really doesn't want to say anything more. It was a humiliating experience for her.'
According to the federal government agency, the searches are conducted by an officer of the traveler's gender.
The Customs Act permits both video and photographs during the searches.
It is not standard procedure for Customs and Border Protection to photograph travellers naked,' the spokeswoman added.
There are particular circumstances, however, in which Customs would undertake an external search of a passenger with the consent of the passenger,' the spokeswoman said.
In his book scheduled to be released Tuesday, Edelsten also writes of his plans to have his first child with Mrs. Gordon-Edelsten.
Brynne wants to have children,' Mr Edelsten writes in his book, 'My reaction? Let's give it a try.'
The baby would be a first for both.
