FBI: New Unreleased $100 Bills Stolen

Philadelphia authorities are asking local merchants to be on the lookout for a special kind of counterfeit money.

The FBI says sometime between when a plane from Dallas landed at Philadelphia International Airport, and when a courier service took newly designed $100 bills to the Federal Reserve Building in East Rutherford New Jersey, the alleged suspect or suspects were able to get their hands on the unreleased bills, MyFoxPhilly.com reported.

The FBI and Philadelphia police are now working to retrace the shipping route.

"Thefts and crimes happen all the time here in Philadelphia unfortunately but this is the first of this nature that we’ve experienced here," Special Agent John Kitzinger told MyFoxPhilly.com.

"We would ask for any merchant or anyone who comes in contact with anyone attempting to bass the money to contact the FBI immediately," he said.

The new bills are to be released next year.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the FBI at 215-418-4000.
