The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting a wide-spread search for aspiring Israeli filmmaker Syril Zimand, 28, who has been missing since mid November.
Zimand, son of Israeli billionaire Henri Zimand, moved to Hollywood in early November, with the goal of writing and selling his screenplays.
According to the Jewish Journal he arrived safely, checked into a local motel on November 10, and stayed there until November 24.
According to friends and family, he has not been heard of since and his whereabouts are unknown.
Henri Zimand said that he has filed a report with law enforcement agencies as well as the Israeli consulate in Los Angeles, with no results so far. At some point after November 24, he said, his son called, asked for some money and said everything was fine. That was the last time the two spoke.
The elder Zimand made his fortune in real estate and startup companies and is a known philanthropist.
"He didn’t tell me he was moving from the hotel," Zimand told the Jewish Journal. "The only thing I hope for is that he found somebody who is giving him lodging and food and he simply is not calling."
He added that they had not had a falling out and that he was unaware of anything that would cause his son not to call.
The Los Angeles Police Department and the California Department of Justice Missing and Unidentified Persons Unit have yet to discover anything about Syril Zimand’s whereabouts.
Zimand said he has hired a private detective who has checked homeless shelters and elsewhere, without success.
"Syril has never gone missing before," the concerned father said.
Born in Monaco, Syril Zimand was raised and educated in Israel.
He has traveled back-and-forth between Israel and Los Angeles several times over the past few years.
