Police are trying to identify the charred remains of a nude female body found in Marine Park today.
A 911 caller reported discovering the woman’s body in the nature preserve near Gerritsen and Lois avenues around 7:15 a.m., police said.
Responders found the victim in a sandy clearing surrounded by thick brush on the border of Marine Park and Gerritsen Beach.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Investigators did not find any identification near the woman, whose body was near the water and close to a footpath through thick brush, sources said.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Police are investigating whether there was foul play.
Parts of the victim’s body were burned, but there were no other obvious signs of trauma, and it did not appear the woman had been dead for long.
