David Pichosky and his wife Rochelle Wise found dead

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla., -- A couple from Canada, spending the winter in Florida, were found dead in their condo in what police say is a double homicide.

The bodies of Toronto residents David Pichosky, 71, and his wife Rochelle Wise, 66, were discovered Thursday night in their Hallandale Beach, Fla., condominium. Capt. Sonia Quinones of the Hallandale Beach Police Department said the incident is being investigated as a double homicide and not a murder-suicide.

Neighbors described the victims, who had been married for about four years, as warm, friendly and religious.

They said the couple could regularly be seen walking to temple on Friday evenings, The Miami Herald reported Friday.

Neighbours of the couple said Pichosky and Wise were recently married, CBC's Peter Akman reported from outside their apartment complex in North York.

Wise is a former vice-principal of Bialik Hebrew Day School in Toronto.

An official with Canada's Foreign Affairs Department said it had been in contact with local authorities and is providing consular assistance to family of the victims.

The cause of death and motive are under investigation, Quinones said, adding the Broward County, Fla., Sheriff's Office is involved in the inquiry.

The bodies are scheduled to be flown back Motzei Shabbos to Toronto to an orthodox funeral home.
