A 425-pound gang member in Southern California has been arrested on suspicion of trying to kidnap a 10-year-old boy on his way to soccer practice.
Victor Joseph Espinoza, 55, lured the boy close enough to grab him Thursday afternoon at a park in Santa Ana, Calif., police said.
The victim was able to break free and ran to tell his coach and an adult cousin what happened.
The coach went looking for Espinoza and tried to detain him, but because of the suspect’s size, he was unsuccessful, KTLA reported.
"I was just mad at the time because the kid was crying," the coach, who was not identified, told the news station.
Police found Espinoza in a nearby yard and arrested him.
A known gang member, he was booked on false imprisonment and child annoying, KTLA reported.
