'Is it time to go yet, Dad?': Malia Obama plays the moody teenager during father's MLK Day speech

Michelle Obama (right) leans in and whispers something to Malia, probably attempting to lift her spirits as she appeared bored throughout her father's (left) speech at the MLK community service event

Long-winded: Even Michelle (right) looks like she wishes the President (left) would hurry up already

Must...keep...eyes....open: Malia (second from right) tries but fails to stay completely alert during the talk

While most of her friends from school were having fun on their mandated-school holiday, Malia Obama joined her parents at a Washington, D.C. community center doing charity work.

And it does not look like she was pleased.

As a way to pay their respects to the legacy of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., President Barack, First Lady Michelle, and first teenager Malia Obama all helped build a library.

No word yet on where daughter Sasha was during Monday’s event, but given Malia’s bored and mopey expression throughout the press conference, it seems she wished she was joining her sister wherever she was.

While Mr Obama made remarks about their tradition of honoring the late Mr King through service to others, Malia, 13, looked like she could barely keep her eyes open.

At one point, Mrs Obama matched her expression and looked on at her husband exasperatedly, as if trying to mentally tell him to ‘wrap the speech up already’.

In a recent interview, Mrs Obama said that- like all teenage girls- Malia finds her parents hopelessly embarrassing at points. This morning must have been one of those times.

‘My kids are like any children: anything we do is not cool. They will go in the other direction,’ Mrs Obama said.

While Sasha may have taken that thought to heart and bailed on the family tradition, Sasha stuck around with a sourpuss face and hands burrowed deep in her pockets.
