Millionaire Alan Bond was grieving today after his devoted wife was found dead in the swimming pool of their Australian mansion.
Diana Bliss, 57, is believed to have been found by Mr Bond floating in the pool of their luxury home in Perth, Western Australia.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances but local media said there were suggestions that Miss Bliss had been looking unwell recently and was struggling with personal issues.
The former successful theatre producer married entrepreneur Mr Bond, now 74, in 1995 after he had been discharged as a bankrupt. He had divorced his high-profile wife Eileen - 'Big Red' - Bond in 1992.
Miss Bliss had remained at her husband's side throughout a number of financial problems, including his bankruptcy and a period in jail.
They had been living in London, where Mr Bond was born - he is believed to hold British and Australian citizenship - until 2010 when they decided to return to Auistralia to live permanently.
A neighbour told Australia's Channel Ten network that whence last saw Miss Bliss a few days ago she was not looking very well. It is understood she spent some time in hospital and suffered from depression.
The neighbour also said that she had heard a slight moaning sound coming from within the Bond property.
Mr Bond has been a controversial figure throughout most of his life, becoming known for his high-profile business dealings and his criminal convictions.
But he also became a hero to Australians when he threw millions of pounds into the country's Americas Cup yacht challenge, resulting him being selected as Australian of the Year.
He rose to higher esteem when, in 1983, Australia won the cup.
But the former signwriter who had emigrated to Australia from Hammersmith with his parents in 1950 later found himself facing enormous financial problems and was declared bankrupt in 1992 with personal debts totalling nearly £2 billion.
He was later convicted of fraud and spent four years in jail, but following his release he became involved in mining and found himself included in a local magazine's 'rich list'.
At his side during his early financial troubles was his high-profile socialite wife Eileen who told a tv network that when she married Alan they lived in 11 houses in the first nine years.
When Mr Bond met and married Miss Bliss in 1995 it was said that Perth's socialites did not know what to make of her, such was the contrast between her quiet demeanour and the high-profile champagne-drinking Eileen.
Miss Bliss, described by one commentator last night as her husband's 'tower of strength', has been at his side in Perth and London, particularly through the difficult times.
One newspaper said that full details of Miss Bliss's death will emerge in following days but quoted early reports which said that it was Mr Bond who found her floating in the pool and tried desperately to resuscitate her.
