Police investigate the scene of a fatal shooting in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The death of Andrew Brown, 45, marked the city's first homicide of 2012.
A 45-year-old man was fatally shot in Brooklyn to become the first murder victim of 2012, capping a violent morning citywide.
Andrew Brown, 45, died after being shot in the chest in a sixth-floor hallway on Fulton St. in Bedford-Stuyvesant about 9 a.m., cops said.
Hours earlier, a 34-year-old man was shot in the head near Humboldt St. and Siegel St. in Bushwick about 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was rushed to Woodhull Hospital, where he died.
New Year’s Eve was also marked by a spate of gun violence citywide that left more than a dozen New Yorkers wounded, police sources said.
n A man was shot in the back near Bradford St. and Fulton St. in East New York about 12:50 a.m., sources said. His shooter fled in a white SUV.
n A man was shot in the knee near Seagirt Blvd. and 25th St. just before 2:30 a.m. and rushed to Jamaica Hospital, sources said.
n One man was shot in the arm and another was shot in the leg on E. 180 St. in the Bronx about 3 a.m.
n A man was shot on Davidson Ave. in the Bronx about 3:45 a.m. .
n A 24-year-old man was shot in the arm near Clarendon Road and Nostrand Ave. in Flatbush about 4 a.m. and rushed to Kings County Hospital.
n Minutes later a man was shot in the left side of his chest on E. 53rd St. in Flatlands, Brooklyn, and also taken to Kings County Hospital.
n A man shot in the knee walked into Lincoln Hospital about 4:10 a.m. He had been shot near E. 161 St. and Gerard Ave .
n A man was shot in the arm on Rockaway Blvd. near Baisley Pond Park about 4:25 a.m. A 27-year-old man, also shot in the arm in the same incident walked into the 113th Precinct stationhouse.
n A 15-year-old boy was shot in the left arm on Somers St. in Bed-Stuy about 4:40 a.m.
