Elderly Alzheimer's patient abuse caught on camera

BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn woman was convicted for abusing an elderly Alzheimer's patient.

The 53-year-old woman is accused of abusing the 86-year-old victim while working as a home heath aide inside the Benson Avenue home.

The alleged incident happened on October 15, 2008.

The Kings County District Attorney says that that Peters pulled the elderly woman away from a chair that she was leaning on and the victim fell.

District Attorney Hynes says that Peters left the victim lying face down on the floor for about 20 minutes, while she watched television.

Then, Peters then allegedly grabbed the victim by the ankles and dragged her to the other side of the room, and then proceeded to drag her across the floor two more times and left her there for over an hour.

The victim's daughter arrived later and found her mother lying on the floor.

The family reported the incident to the District Attorney's Elder Abuse Unit. The abuse was captured on surveillance video set up by the victim's son, which he turned over to the prosecutors.

Peters was convicted of Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent Person.

She faces up to a year in jail at her sentencing on January 5, 2011
