Heavily armed police forces have raided numerous Kollelim in Eretz Yisroel Sunday morning, and arrests have been made.
Kollelim in Eretz Yisroel receive money for every Yungerman enrolled in Kollel. Apparently, many of them tell the government that they have many more members in their Kollel then they really do. An investigation has been ongoing for quite some time, and police were given orders on Sunday to make the arrests for what seems to be “large scale fraud”. They either had people not really enrolled in their Kollel, sign the papers, or had individuals posses numerous fake ID cards, and signed up repeatedly.
Police forces have so far raided seven Kollelim belonging to the “Masmidim” Mosdos in Yerushalayim, Beitar, Modiin Illit, and Beit Shemesh. The Kollelim have been sealed shut, and police have arrested six people as of this posting.
Additionally, a high-ranking official at the Ministry of Education has been arrested in connection to the fraud.
More police raids and arrests are expected.
Some sources that police have found a machine which manufactures fake ID’s, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Six people were arrested and four were held for questioning Sunday after central unit investigators in Jerusalem, in cooperation with the fraud unit, raided three offices of Orthodox-run educational non-profit organizations that are suspected of deceiving the government of ten of millions of shekels in recent years.
Police suspect that the organizations’ representatives received millions of shekels from the Education Ministry for students who they falsely claimed studied at yeshivas.

ReplyDeleteעל-פי ההערכה, המוסדות החרדים זייפו תעודות זהות לצורך קבלת דמי תמיכה חודשיים ממשרד החינוך עבור תלמידים, שכעת מתברר שאינם לומדים כלל בישיבות. המשטרה עצרה שישה חשודים המשמשים בתפקידים בכירים בעמותות, ועיכבה לחקירה ארבעה נוספים. בין היתר, נמצאו במשרדים
למעלה מ-1,000 תעודות זהות מזויפות, מכונות להדפסת תעודות זהות, מחשבים, מכשירים לניילון והדבקה של תעודות זהות, חותמות וציוד נוסף.
כל העצורים נלקחו לחקירה במפלג ההונאה וביחידה המרכזית של ירושלים, ויובאו מחר לדיון בהארכת מעצרם. במשטרה ציינו כי החקירה נפתחה בעקבות פעילות מודיעינית שניהלו לאורך תקופה ארוכה. "העמותות הציגו מצג שווא של כמה מאות תלמידים הלומדים בכל ישיבה וקיבלו עבורם כספים, כשבפועל למדו כמה עשרות בלבד", הסבירו. במשטרה בודקים כעת לאן הוזרמו הכספים, והבהירו כי צפויים מעצרים נוספים בפרשה.

ReplyDeleteRe- chillul hashem – aren’t we obligated to avoid even the appearance of wrongdoing? I’d like to think that all the police found was caused by careless and sloppy paperwork. In a time that the chiloni public, that is supporting the yeshivas (and not entirely willingly) is practically up in arms about the cost, we must be extra vigilant about doing everything properly.

ReplyDeleteThere are over 52 places in the Talmud that tells us to work. The Shulchan Aruch tells us to work. I am fed up of self-interst seeking Rabbis who preach that work is forbidden. They have created their own religion. The religion of greed. Not only is this problem rampent in Israel but it is rampent in the U.S.A. as well. How can our youth trust such frauds? No wonder we have the problems we have. I want the yeshivos to open their books and let the public know how they handle their finances. The Talmud in Barachas says that if one doesn't have a job in the end that person will come to steal. We are raising awhole generation of people who will be faced with this delema. Get a Job now!
