The Jewish community in Argentina is reeling after the
brutal murder of 28-year-old Magali Yael Levy, a member of the Buenos Aires
Jewish community, who was killed in her home over the weekend during a robbery.
Local police and prosecutors have launched an investigation.
Officers responding to the scene on Friday discovered Levy’s
lifeless body. According to Argentine media reports, the apartment was
ransacked, and valuables appeared to have been stolen.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a woman recently
hired as a housekeeper entered the apartment on Friday, followed shortly by an
unidentified man. The two were later seen fleeing with bags, according to local
police. Surveillance footage reportedly captured them leaving the building
together.
"The investigation is ongoing to bring those
responsible to justice," sources familiar with the case told local media.
Rabbi Eliahu Hamra, president of Argentina’s Jewish
community council and rabbi of the AMIA congregation, expressed grief over the
tragedy. "We are in shock over the murder of Magali Yael Levy, 28, in the
Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires," he said. "We embrace her
husband, Alberto Yoel Arazi, her father, Adrian Leon Levy, and her
mother,Ileana Emilia Chayo, along with her entire family during this time of
profound sorrow. We demand that authorities ensure those responsible for this
horrific crime are prosecuted."
