Police are searching for a pair of burglars targeting elderly women in the Ocean Parkway section of Brooklyn, pretending to be utility workers to gain access to their victims' homes.
Surveillance video released Wednesday offers a clear view of the alleged schemers approaching one of the victims' homes.
The incidents were reported to police within the past week. In one case, an 89-year-old woman at 109 Ryder Ave. was approached by a man and a woman wearing safety vests. The woman asked to look at the house meters, while the man entered the victim's home and took cash and jewelry, police said.
The suspects then fled the home.
A similar incident happened at 2047 59th St., when a 90-year-old woman allowed the suspects access to the back of her home. The female suspect engaged the victim in conversation while the male suspect walked through the home and took assorted jewelry, police said.
The suspects again fled, this time in a green four-door compact sedan.
Anyone with information on the incident or the suspects is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or at nypdcrimestoppers.com.
