CBS won’t back off airing ‘Brooklyn DA’ Charles Hynes despite Abe George lawsuit

New York - Despite an upcoming attempt by a rival candidate to use the legal system to prevent the show from airing, CBS News says its new reality show “Brooklyn D.A.” is covered under First Amendment protection and that it will air as scheduled beginning May 28th.

The upcoming show, which CBS is teasing as a “six-part news series,” documents prosecutors from Kings County as they work through high-profile murder cases.

The NEW YORK DAILY NEWS reports that rival candidate for Brooklyn D.A., Abe George, plans to be in court on Tuesday where he will file a suit against the Tiffany Network, Charles Hynes, and Hynes’ Re-Election Committee, claiming CBS, and more specifically Charles Hynes, are “illegally” using “public resources” and the D.A.‘s office to “further” Hynes’ political career.

Abe George charges that the show is not “news-related” at all, but rather an “infomercial” for Hynes, and will ask a state court judge to block the show from airing until after Election Day.

Hynes’ campaign spokesman, George Arzt, called Abe George’s accusations “pure garbage” and “fabricated drivel.”

A spokesman for CBS said the network was “surprised” that a person running for D.A. has never “heard of” the First Amendment, and that Abe George’s antics are merely a publicity stunt.
