Brooklyn, NY - Tire-Slashing Spree Leaves Bay Ridge Drivers Stranded
Police are investigating after the tires of at least 25 cars were slashed in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn overnight.
Most of the vehicles were parked along 71st and 72nd Streets, between Third Ave and Ridge Boulevard.
Police say a few calls were made to 911 about possible criminal mischief in the area and they are encouraging others to come forward if their cars were vandalized.
Residents said they had never seen anything like it before in the neighborhood.
"I had a couple of neighbors that actually heard air coming out from the tires. They would hear a popping noise and it continued down the block," said one local. "I think by the time anybody really came out and saw it the person was gone already."
"I've seen broken glass occasionally on cars, a tire or two, but not the whole block," said another.
Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
