NYPD Employee Accused of Assaulting Girlfriend

A New York Police Department employee was arrested at 9:30 p.m. on Monday after the police said he assaulted his girlfriend and locked her in the bathroom while the couple’s young daughter was in another part of their home.

The woman, whom the authorities did not identify, was locked inside the bathroom of their Manhattan apartment for about two hours as the 3-year-old child was essentially stranded from her mother, the police said.

The Police Department employee, Julio Quintana, 35, who works as a school safety agent, was arrested on charges of unlawful imprisonment, assault and endangering the welfare of a child, a police spokesman said.

It was not clear if Mr. Quintana left the couple’s home after locking his girlfriend inside the bathroom, said the spokesman. The endangering charge may have been added for assaulting the woman in front of her daughter, the police said.

“He slapped her,” said the spokesman, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was continuing.

The spokesman could not immediately say how long Mr. Quintana had been an employee of the New York Police Department or at what school he had been most recently assigned.
