AP/MYFOXNY.COM - Police are investigating whether a New York City firefighter was driving a BMW sport utility vehicle that fled the scene after fatally striking a pedestrian.
Officers later found the car abandoned blocks from the Sunday accident.
Pat Quagliariello, 39, walked into a Brooklyn precinct hours later and told police his vehicle was involved in the accident, the NYPD said. He refused to say whether he was the driver and asked for a lawyer.
Cops released released Quagliariello while they conducted an investigation.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said investigators are conducting forensic work and DNA analysis to determine who was driving the car. An arrest wasn't made because there wasn't sufficient evidence, he said.
The 25-year-old victim, Manuel Tzajguachiac, was struck shortly after midnight as he was crossing at 65th Street and 20th Avenue. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
