Susanna Reid on BBC Breakfast: Her 'spicy' wardrobe has attracted widespread comment on internet forums
Her ‘spicy’ wardrobe has been the subject of discussion by thousands of viewers on internet forums.
But Susanna Reid has brushed off criticism that her clothes are inappropriately revealing – saying ‘it’s a fact of life’ people talk about what women presenters wear on television.
The BBC Breakfast presenter also claimed that a lot of consideration goes into her outfit choices.
In an interview with Radio Times, she revealed that she deliberately opts for tops and dresses that do not display too much décolletage, and avoids wearing necklaces that are ‘too distracting’.
Dismissing her critics, Miss Reid, who has worked on the show since 2004, said: ‘People seem to be shocked that women have breasts.
There’ll be complaints about the fact that there is literally a shadow showing.
‘People are always going to talk about what women wear on TV. It’s a fact of life.
Last year, the 41-year-old’s choice of dresses for the BBC One programme drew a chorus of comments on Twitter.
One viewer wrote: ‘I forgot to say how delicious Susanna Reid looking this morning’.
Another said: ‘Susanna Reid was looking spicy.
A third said: ‘Yowza. No news is bad news when she’s reading it.
In 2010 Miss Reid was accused of showing too much cleavage during an interview with actor Hugh Grant.
For the informal chat, she wore a long-sleeved brown top with a square-neckline that only showed the top of her cleavage.
Viewers complained the outfit was ‘a bit too much’ and that she was flirting ‘like a schoolgirl on a first date’ with Grant.
Miss Reid, who has three sons with her partner, television sports correspondent Dominic Cotton, will become BBC Breakfast’s main anchor when it moves to Salford next month.
Her colleague Sian Williams has opted to stay in London and present a show for Radio 4.
