Accused madam Anna Gristina is cooling her heels in Rikers, but her alleged partner was sprung on $100,000 bond after surrendering Tuesday.
Wearing a button-down shirt, slacks and glasses, Jaynie Mae Baker, 30, pleaded not guilty to a charge of promoting prostitution during a Manhattan arraignment.
Baker was indicted weeks ago but was on vacation in Mexico when the scandal broke, her lawyer Robert Gottlieb said.
Friends called to say reporters were camped outside her Williamsburg, Brooklyn, apartment, and Baker contacted Gottlieb from Cabo San Lucas on Thursday.
The next day, he arranged for her surrender, and she flew into Newark Airport on Saturday night, he said.
Gottlieb said prosecutors agreed to pull back the warrant for her arrest so she wouldn’t be detained at the airport — but she was grabbed at Customs anyway.
The lawyer had to call an assistant district attorney’s cell phone at 10:30 p.m. to get Baker released so that she could surrender as scheduled.
Baker
was released on $100,000 bond, written by well-known bail bondsman Ira Judelson and secured by a friend’s property.
Prosecutors have provided few details of Baker’s alleged role in the $2,000-a-night call-girl ring, but they revealed that Baker was caught on tape.
Baker had also been working as a matchmaker for VIP Life, a boutique service that says it pairs well-heeled men with refined and educated ladies.
Gristina is being held on $2 million bail because prosecutors say her British passport and Montreal crash pad make her a flight risk.
