NYPD sergeant jetted to Paris to visit his murder suspect sweetheart

A French-speaking NYPD sergeant on trial for lying about his romantic relationship with a Brooklyn homicide suspect flew to Paris twice to see his murderous “chéri,” prosecutors said today.

Sgt. Bobby Hadid, 45, traveled to France in 2007 with NYPD investigators to translate the confessions of Marien Kargu, 43, and his wife Leila Grison.

The sergeant kept in touch with Grison even as her husband was extradited to the U.S. to stand trial, then lied about the contact when he testified under oath in Kargu’s trial, prosecutors said.

“He had flown to France twice to meet her,” testified assistant district attorney Melissa Carvajal, who hoped Grison – who could not be extradited – would come to New York to support her husband so she could be arrested.   “We hoped she was that dumb,” Carvajal testified.

Hadid is charged with perjury because he testified that he had no contact with any witnesses since the 2007 interviews – only to see Kargu’s defense attorney produce a 2008 email he sent to Grison signed, “Hugs and kisses and see you later,” in French. Hadid is still employed by the NYPD.

Kargu was convicted of manslaughter for the 2001 killing of his roommate Antonio Guzzardi, 34, while Grison confessed to helping him hide the body in a dumpster.
