A late morning fire Wednesday damaged several apartments in the Raymond Castle Apartments at 500 East Funston Avenue in the Village of Spring Valley.
Police said 40 people were displaced by the “major structure fire” which was reported at 10:37 a.m. Firefighters didn’t extinguish it until 1 p.m.
One firefighter and one elderly female resident suffered from smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
