OYSTER BAY, N.Y. - FBI divers and New York police are attempting for a second day to retrieve a boat that capsized and sank in Long Island Sound, killing three children.
They went into the 60-degree waters off Oyster Bay Wednesday morning. With currents strong, they have to be vigilant so they don't get caught under the boat.
They're trying to secure the vessel with straps that will be attached to inflatable air bags that will float the boat.
The divers ran into difficulty Tuesday in the murky waters 60 feet below the surface.
The 34-foot vessel capsized on July 4 following a fireworks display. There were 10 children and 17 adults on board.
Nassau Detective Lt. John Azzata says examining the vessel is a key component to determining a possible cause for the accident.
