Chabad House In Indian Capital Closed For Non-Israelis
Chabad House in the Indian capital New Delhi has been closed for non-Israelis after Monday's bomb attack on an Israeli Embassy car in which the wife of a defense attache was seriously injured, local media reported on Wednesday.
Security has been beefed up at Chabad House in Paharganj close to the city center where the resident rabbi began to bar non-Israelis from entering the place, the reports added.
Police also began checking handbags and passports of the people at the entrance, ascertaining that they were Israeli nationals before letting them in. Israelis come to India in large numbers as backpackers and tourists. They visit Chabad House to celebrate special occasions such as passover.
With its headquarters in New York, Chabad Houses serve as Jewish community centers across the world and engage in educational and social activities.
Meanwhile, police are making intensive efforts to trace a motorcyclist who planted an explosive on the rear of the Embassy vehicle and sped off. Besides the woman, her driver and two occupants of a passing car were also injured in the explosion.
