An off-duty cop was shot and wounded by a stray bullet in East New York Monday afternoon.
Dawn Foster, 38, a 17-year-veteran of the force, was pulling into the parking lot of a McDonald's on Pennsylvania Avenue near Linden Boulevard about 4 p.m. on when two rival groups faced-off across the avenue. One guy pulled a gun and fired across Pennsylvania Ave. in the direction of another group of about eight people standing in the parking lot, said a police.
The shooter missed his intended target and hit Foster in the right arm as she sat inside her tan-colored Geo, said police.
Foster she sped away, driving about a mile to her mother's home on Ashford Street near Linden Boulevard, where she called 911 and reported the wound, said a police source.
Foster was taken to Kings County hospital and she will survive, said police.
She had told cops she had pulled into the parking lot to use the ATM machine outside the restaurant, said a police source.
Foster is assigned to the department's Medical Division, said cops said.
Police are still hunting for the gunman. It's unclear what prompted the shooting.
