Mazel Tov! Natalie Portman takes her baby boy to synagogue

Natalie Portman holds tightly to her baby boy as she takes him to synagogue in California

If anything is worth offering thanks for, it's the birth of a healthy, beautiful baby.

So it's fitting that Natalie Portman took her 4-month-old son Aleph to synagogue at the Ohr HaTorah Temple on Saturday in Culver City, California.

The 30-year-old Oscar winner kept a tight hold on her precious cargo, despite the fact that he was safely strapped into a baby carrier.

Protected from the October chill cutting through the Los Angeles sun, Aleph was safely inside her baby romper suit covered in a dog print.

The Black Swan star was also joined by her fiance Benjamin Millepied, who followed Natalie out of the temple holding a baby bag.

Earlier this week, Natalie allowed a first glimpse at her son while leaving a friend’s house in Los Angeles.

Aleph, ballet dancer father Benjamin Millepied and Portman recently took their first family vacation together.

The gorgeous trio spent some time in Europe; they were spotted in both Geneva, Switzerland and Paris, France.

After the excitement of winning and Oscar and giving birth, it's only natural that the star wouldn't immediately wish to return to work.

She was expected to star in the indie film Adaline as her first post-baby job, but turned the role down.

Katherine Heigl, also a mother to two-year-old adopted daughter Naleigh, has been offered the part instead.

Natalie has remained in the spotlight despite not working, with films Thor and Your Highness being released in the last few months.

The Black Swan star discussed looking forward to becoming a mother in an interview earlier this year.

She said: 'With my child, I think I will just thank them. It's sort of been a protection.

It feels like a protection against all the hoopla and the part that keeps you centred where your meaning is and what is actually important in the midst of shiny stuff that's superficial.'
