Sex Offender Sought After N.C. Police Chief's Daughter Found Dead in Storage Unit
Police are searching for a registered sex offender suspected of killing the daughter of a North Carolina police chief and hiding her body in a storage unit.
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department said in a news release Sunday that the body of 23-year-old Valerie Hamilton was found Saturday night at the Mini-Storage Center. She was the daughter of Concord Chief Merl Hamilton.
Police have issued a murder warrant for 34-year-old Michael Neal Harvey who they think is the man seen on surveillance video leaving a restaurant with Valerie Hamilton last week.
Investigators are looking for Harvey and a white 1996 Chevrolet Blazer he was driving. It has North Carolina tags ZXE-1756.
Multiple media outlets reported that Harvey was convicted of a sex offense in New York and that arrest records show he has been in North Carolina at least five years.
Police believe Harvey is still in the Charlotte area, according to the Charlotte Observer
