A New Jersey college student was found beaten to death on a
bloody, snow-covered lawn near Rutgers University, cops said Sunday.
William “Billy” McCaw, 22, was discovered around 10:30 am
Saturday, dead of “blunt force trauma,” outside a home on Hartwell Street in
New Brunswick, in an area popular for its off-campus college housing, officials
said.
McCaw was a student at Kean University, said prosecutors.
His killer was still at large Sunday.
The popular, outgoing McCaw played soccer and had previously
attended Rutgers, going back often to visit friends, pals said.
McCaw had no known connection to the house where he was
found, police said.
Rutgers student Andrew McCarthy, 24, didn’t know McCaw but
woke Saturday to find cops in the yard next to his own house.
“There were tracks leading from another house. Whatever
happened, happened there,” surmised cCarthy.
Residents of that home couldn’t
be reached.
“He had wounds on his hands,” said McCarthy. “I think it was
a fight gone wrong.”
McCaw grew up in New Jersey but his parents recently moved
to Tennessee.
“There was never a dull moment with him,” a friend, Michael
Puerari, said. “There’s not one bad thing you could say about him.”
Rutgers student Ravi Naik, 22, who attended the same high
school with McCaw, noted, “He was a great guy. He smiled all the time.”
