Israel Aerospace Industries Tuesday unveiled the newest
version of its Heron unmanned aerial vehicle at the Singapore air show.
Called the Super Heron HF, the drone differs from previous
incarnations of the medium-altitude, long-endurance drone due to its
integration of a heavy-fuel engine, according to Flightglobal, an online news
and information site related to aviation and aerospace industries.
According to the report, the engine was revamped to meet
demand from drone operators who want to reduce their dependence on traditional
aviation gasoline.
The newer version is also equipped with winglets to enhance
its aerodynamics.
”The Super Heron offers a flexible and modular design that
adapts well to many of IAI’s customers seeking to extend their Unmanned Aerial
System capabilities, as well as for new customers entering the field,” Joseph
Weiss, IAI’s president and CEO, was quoted as saying.
The new Heron's saw its first flight trials in Israel late
last year, according to Flightglobal.
