LAPD: Massive search underway for girl believed kidnapped in El Sereno

More than 100 police and fire personnel combed a wooded area near the El Sereno Recreation Center on Tuesday morning for signs of a teenage girl that witnesses said was taken "kicking and screaming" by a male suspect, Los Angeles Police officials said.

The girl, believed to be between 13 and 15, was dragged away by a man believed to be between 18 and 21 some time around 8 p.m. Monday near the center located at 4721 Klamath St., police said.

During the initial search Monday, investigators found leggings and a pair of Puma tennis shoes, although it was not immediately clear whether the clothes belonged to the victim. The search was suspended around 11:30 p.m. due to darkness.

Early Tuesday morning, police resumed the search using dogs and mounted units, with the help of city and county fire personnel.

No description of the possible victim or suspect has been released and officials said there have been no reports of missing persons in the area. But the alleged kidnapping was witnesses by several bystanders, leading law enforcement officials to believe this is not a hoax.
