But after hanging a silver around the neck of Iranian Mehrdad Karam Zadeh, 40, he kept his hands clamped firmly to his chest.
Kate, 30, did not extend her hand to be clutched.
British winner Aled Davies, 21, and China’s Lezheng Wang, who got bronze, both warmly embraced the royal from the podium.
