NEW YORK — Twenty former employees who complained about working conditions have reached a settlement with a Brooklyn kosher food manufacturer.
Manhattan federal court records confirm the settlement with Flaum (flowm) Appetizing Corp.
The ex-employees' lawyer, Stuart Lichten (LIHK'-tehn), said Monday the settlement totals $577,000.
Flaum's lawyer did not immediately return a phone call for comment.
The company's products include hummus, kosher pickles and herring.
Most of the workers are Mexican immigrants. A nonprofit group advocated for them. The case started in 2007.
More than 120 supermarkets stopped selling Flaum products because of the controversy. They included Food Emporium, Zabar's (ZAY'-bahrz) and Morton Williams.
