Sexual Harassment Allegations in the Orthodox Jewish community

T.O.T specializes in the Orthodox Jewish community worldwide.

After The New York Times published an explosive report in October 2017 detailing decades of sexual harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein, dozens of women came forward with their own accusations against the Hollywood mogul. Within a week Weinstein had been fired from his company and expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Now, in a post-Weinstein world, legions of women have felt empowered to speak out and share their own #MeToo stories both on social media and in news outlets.

The reports against the powerful producer sparked an avalanche of accusations against high-profile men in media, politics, Silicon Valley, and Hollywood, all with varying degrees of repercussions. Sexual harassment in the workplace is certainly nothing new, but it’s safe to say the issue is now, rightfully, taking center stage.

The general manager of a Massachusetts car dealership testified at trial that he “honestly didn’t believe” a finance manager when she told him that her supervisor often commented on her anatomy, tried to throw coins down her blouse and suggested they sleep together so he could see her breasts.

The finance manager, who was fired after making complaints, ultimately was awarded $200,000 in punitive damages because her employer failed to properly investigate her allegations. That’s on top of $40,000 in compensatory damages for emotional distress.

In ruling that punitive damages were warranted, the state’s high court issued a scathing review of the company’s handling of the woman’s grievances. In fact, it reads like a primer on what not to do in sexual harassment inquiries.

“The investigation was marred from the beginning” because of the general manager’s bias against the accuser, according to the court. The general manager and the HR manager at Lexus of Watertown Inc. claimed to have conducted separate investigations but couldn’t produce any notes.

And the court found it particularly concerning that they couldn’t find anything to support the woman’s allegations, even though many of the incidents she reported were supported by other employees at trial.

The case is just one example of how a poorly conducted investigation can harm an organization’s bottom line as well as its long-term reputation.

In the recent flood of sexual harassment allegations involving high-profile individuals in various industries, HR professionals have been criticized for being unwilling or unable to investigate such complaints. They’ve been accused of protecting their organizations, or at least the powerful individuals at their helms, at the expense of the harassed workers.

In fact, some HR leaders are asking experts to guide them through mock investigations to give them more practice, while others are requesting workplace climate assessments in an effort to uncover problems earlier. No one wants to wake up one morning and find their company in the news.

Almost two-thirds of Americans, or 64 percent, say sexual harassment in the workplace is a serious problem, up from 47 percent in 2011, according to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll. Thirty percent of women surveyed have experienced unwanted sexual advances from male co-workers, and 23 percent said they were harassed by men who had influence over their jobs. Of those who reported being subjected to harassment at work, one-third said they were sexually abused. Only 42 percent of the women reported the inappropriate behavior to a supervisor, and 95 percent said the men went unpunished.

While workplace investigations in general are considered one of the toughest parts of an HR professional’s duties, investigating sexual harassment complaints can be particularly challenging.

“It’s an embarrassing subject for folks, which is why we often don’t hear about it for decades,” “In most situations, it’s not about sex, it’s about an abuse of power.”

So, it’s very difficult for someone new to a job or in a low-level position to report harassment. “It’s not just that they’re afraid of coming to HR. They’re afraid of the consequences. ‘What happens if I lose my job? What happens if I’m identified as a troublemaker? What happens if I lose my job and they give me a bad reference?’ ”

Frequently, the employee who is being harassed just wants the offensive behavior to stop, she says. That’s why it’s important to be sensitive to the individual’s turmoil, explaining that, “We don’t want you to be subjected to this. We have to look into this.” Then determine whether it’s necessary to take steps to protect the individual’s physical safety and to block any retaliation.

All sexual harassment allegations should be investigated, although some inquiries will be more extensive than others. If you write anybody off, you could later be accused of not taking their complaints seriously.

Likewise, she notes, a superficial or sloppy investigation will send the message to employees “that the organization doesn’t care, that the organization thinks I’m lying, that they’re protecting a person of power.” And an employee who might have been upset and sad before could turn angry. Mad means money in court.

What Is Sexual Harassment?

Sexual harassment is defined by the law. According to the University of Michigan Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center, “unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when either:

The conduct is made as a term or condition of an individual’s employment, education, living environment or participation in a University community.

The acceptance or refusal of such conduct is used as the basis or a factor in decisions affecting an individual’s employment, education, living environment, or participation in a University community.

The conduct unreasonably impacts an individual’s employment or academic performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment for that individual’s employment, education, living environment, or participation in a University community.”

Sexual harassment is a form of Sex Discrimination occurring in the workplace. A key part of the definition is the use of “unwelcome.”

There are two types (generally): quid pro quo and hostile environment.

Quid pro quo means “this for that.” Implying that a certain things will depend on the individual submitting to conduct of a sexual nature. For example, implying that a promotion will occur only if the employee goes on a date with their supervisor.

Hostile environment sexual harassment occurs when the conduct of sexual nature is intimidating, threatening or abusing

The first step is to determine the scope of the investigation.

What is the main question the investigator wants to answer?

HR professionals often come to her wondering how they got off track. They start an inquiry but then it grows until they feel like they’re conducting multiple investigations. “It’s classic scope creep. You have to make a decision.

Is this related to the original investigation?

Do I need to launch a new investigation?

When do I have enough?”

Having a plan will help guide the investigator through the various steps.

Other questions to address in the plan include:

*Who will investigate?

*What evidence needs to be collected?

*Who will be interviewed?

To protect the credibility of the process, you may want to bring in an outside investigator. That’s a good idea, for example, when the person accused is a high-level executive or if those on the HR team lack the experience and training to conduct such an inquiry themselves.

“In my current role, I work closely with the C-suite every day,” If I was conducting an investigation about one of them, other people in the company might have a hard time believing in my objectivity because these are people I work with day in and day out.

Choosing an objective third party not only provides a stronger defense for the employer if a case ever goes to court, it can also make it easier for business leaders to make the right decision, even if it means terminating someone who is a strong financial asset.

It’s important not to label the parties as ‘victim’ and ‘harasser,’ as that creates the appearance and a very real possibility of a predetermined resolution. “If you go into this thinking this person is a victim, there’s a very good possibility that your investigatory questions are going to be swayed and not be as objective as needed to make a decision.”

Some basic steps for every investigation include the following:

Prepare interview questions in advance. Collect needed details from the person making the allegation the who, what, when and where.

You might also ask “Were there witnesses?

Did others know you were upset by this?

Did you talk to family members or friends?”

Try to ask open-ended questions to ensure that you have a full picture of events.

Gather evidence that might support or negate the complaint. This might include voice mails, text messages, e-mails, photos, timecards, business expense records and social media posts. For example, electronic messages might show that a male supervisor made inappropriate sexual comments to a female subordinate. On the flip side, if workers need a key card to enter the worksite, building access records might show that the person accused likely wasn’t in the building at the time of the alleged incident, Cole-Johnson suggests.

Check past performance evaluations and prior complaints. Consider whether the person making the allegation might be seeking retribution for a poor evaluation. “You have to leave your mind open to all of this. Unfortunately, this sometimes happens,” although less frequently than some suggests.

Also evaluate any past complaints against the person being accused. Contact former employees, particularly the individual who previously held the accuser’s job or anyone in the same department who left suddenly without explanation, to find out if they also had problems with the accused employee.

Document every step. Take careful notes throughout the interviews. Record who wasn’t available and why. Some HR professionals even ask interviewees to sign off on the written summaries of their statements. Be aware that any written evidence might well end up being scrutinized in court.

That goes for the HR team as well. A sexual harassment investigation “can’t be treated as juicy gossip, drama or a soap opera,” “It can have such a long-lasting effect on the company and people’s careers.”

Ultimately, you'll need to decide whether a company policy was violated or inappropriate conduct occurred and recommend a course of action to the decision-maker.

If the allegations are supported, the employer should take immediate and appropriate corrective action, which could range from a written reprimand to termination of employment depending on the severity and frequency of the misconduct, experts say. Make sure high-level employees are given the same treatment as low-level employees for similar conduct.

After you’ve submitted the written report to the decision-maker and determined the appropriate disciplinary action (if any), follow up with both parties. Tell the person who filed the complaint that appropriate action was taken, even if you can’t share the details for privacy reasons.

Check back with that employee regularly to ensure that no further harassment has occurred and that there has been no retaliation, which could trigger additional liability.

That follow-up shows the person who made the complaint that HR took it seriously, White says. In many highly publicized recent cases, the alleged sexual harassment and abuse reportedly had been an open secret for years. After one person came forward, the floodgates opened.

Alexander brothers plead not guilty, prosecutors say they raped more than 60 women

Luxury real estate brokers Tal and Oren Alexander, along with their brother Alon, on Friday pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiring to drug and sexually assault dozens of women nearly two months after their arrest.

The three Alexander brothers arrived in Manhattan federal court together in handcuffs, shackles and drab beige jail clothing.

They pleaded not guilty to federal sex trafficking charges in their first court appearance in New York after being arrested in Miami in December. Their transfer was delayed for weeks as they tried unsuccessfully to secure bail.

"Oren Alexander pleaded not guilty today because he is innocent, as a polygraph examination has already revealed," Richard Klugh, an attorney for Oren, said in a statement after the pleas were entered.

"The government continues to make hyperbolic statements in court regarding the number of accusers, and the government's misguided efforts to solicit witnesses -- to prop up a baseless and publicity-driven case -- have yielded no credible evidence of any crime. Oren looks forward to further establishing his innocence."

Prosecutors announced plans to file additional charges, stating that more than 60 women alleged they were raped by at least one of the brothers. The three siblings have been accused of luring women to nightclubs and parties, then drugging and sexually assaulting them.

"We do intend to bring a superseding indictment in this case," prosecutor Elizabeth Espinosa said. "I think we will need another month or two."

Espinosa said that investigators gathered a "substantial" amount of evidence, including accounts from alleged victims, as well as data from iCloud, Instagram, Facebook, dating apps, cell phones, laptop computers and electronic storage devices.

In a January court hearing, when the brothers were still in Florida, prosecutor Andrew Jones said FBI agents found multiple hard drives in a closet of Tal's apartment during a search.

They allegedly contained "a large quantity of sexually explicit videos and photos" showing the brothers with drunk, naked women who were unaware they were being recorded. According to prosecutors, some of the women tried to hide or flee from the camera when they realized they were being filmed.

Defense attorney Deanna Paul, who is representing Tal, called the allegations "speculative" and questioned what the videos depict, prompting U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni to interject.

"In my view, having a sex with a woman who is incapacitated is likely rape," Caproni said.

On Friday, Caproni scheduled the trial for Jan. 5, 2026, anticipating it will last at least a month. Defense attorneys have until early May to file a motion to dismiss. The next in-person court hearing is scheduled for mid-July.

All three brothers face 15 years to life in prison if convicted of the federal charges. Oren and Tal were prominent New York and Miami real estate agents, working with wealthy and celebrity clients.

Yaakov Schlesinger From Beit Shemesh 20 Indicted for Committing Sexual Offenses with Minors

An indictment was filed today (Wednesday) against Yaakov Schlesinger, a 20-year-old resident of Beit Shemesh, who is accused of committing serious sexual offenses in public places such as a synagogue and a staircase on minors aged 6-9 whom they met while visiting the city, including a 4.5-year-old boy.

His arrest, as we recall, sparked a violent protest in the city, during which police officers and medical personnel were injured.

The newspaper describes cases in which Schlesinger touched minors for their pleasure while performing indecent acts, despite the minors' attempts to stay away from him.

The defendant claims that his actions were part of spiritual "attacks" and that he experienced "closeness to God" during their performance.

The prosecution asked the Jerusalem District Court to extend the defendant's detention until the end of the proceedings against him:

"This is a person who poses a great danger, taking into account his statements during interrogations that he commits indecent acts on children in 'fits', that he cannot control  himself, and when he notices children on the street he gets aroused" to God and feels a 'profusion' descending upon him and the children.

He stated during his interrogations that in his opinion the children benefit, and receive 'free love' and that he does not regret it.

The Jerusalem District Court granted the request after the police appealed his release to house arrest.

Italy says Paragon spyware targeted victims in dozens of European countries

Seven Italians and victims in more than a dozen other European countries were targeted with spyware as part of a broad hacking campaign revealed by WhatsApp on Friday, the Italian government said.

The country’s Agenzia per la Cybersicurezza Nazionale (ANC), a cybersecurity agency, is investigating the alleged hacking attempts by Paragon Solutions, the Italian government said in a statement Wednesday.

The statement appeared to deny that the government was behind the targeting, saying it “excludes” allegations that journalists and others have been “subjected to control by the intelligence, and therefore by the Government.”

Victims who have come forward so far include an investigative journalist who has written about fascists Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s far-right party, an advocate for migrants and a Sweden-based Libyan activist who has criticized Italy.

WhatsApp lawyers briefed the ANC on the locations of the victims, the statement said.

Those targeted own phones with numbers tied to Belgium, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Austria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden, according to the statement.

WhatsApp has said that whoever is behind the attacks relied on Paragon Solutions spyware, a zero-click commercial surveillance tool which is now being used by the U.S. government., among others.

Paragon executive chairman John Fleming on Tuesday told TechCrunch that the company counts the U.S. government and its allies as clients but did not say which allies. Representatives for the company did not respond to a request for comment.

WhatsApp has said Paragon used a malicious PDF file to try and infect victims’ phones. The Meta-owned messaging platform said it has shut down the attack vector.

Kanye embarks on a new antisemitic spree on X, saying, ‘I’m never apologizing for my Jewish comments’

Kanye West has once again posted a series of antisemitic and unhinged statements on X (formerly Twitter), sparking renewed outrage. In his latest social media tirade, West called himself a Nazi and praised Adolf Hitler.

“I LOVE HITLER. I’M A NAZI,” West wrote in one post.

The rapper also made controversial comments about the #MeToo movement, Black people, White people, slavery, rape victims, “fat people,” “ugly people,” “poor people,” his children’s school, people who “wear a lot of jewelry,” rappers, the late Virgil Abloh, former US vice president Kamala Harris, and Make-A-Wish children.

However, West also expressed support for male abuse victims, praised the LGBTQ+ community, and spoke favorably of Saudi Arabian Crown Prince and Prime Minister Muhammad bin Salman Al Saud. In one of his tweets, he stated, “Every race has their own pain and their own story.”

Calls to remove West from social media

In response, Friends star David Schwimmer condemned West’s remarks and urged Elon Musk to remove him from X.

“We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate-filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk,” Schwimmer said on Instagram. He added, “Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people as the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in real-life violence against Jews.”

Schwimmer also criticized the lack of widespread condemnation, stating that he does not know “what’s worse”—the fact that West calls himself a Nazi or that “there is not sufficient OUTRAGE to remove and ban him from all social media at this point.”

Video: "Hateful Bigot" Yells "Want ISIS To Kill You" At Jewish Man In US

A woman assaulted a man and hurled racist abuse at him at an office building in New York's Manhattan. In a video shared on X, the woman was seen telling the Jewish person that she wanted "ISIS to kill all of you". She was filmed in the lobby of 950 Third Avenue near East 57th Street in the city on Thursday, a witness, Seth Bell, told The New York Post.

Bell, a lawyer by profession, said the "hateful bigot" identified herself as Noora. At first, she tried to get into the "personal space" of the Hasidic person, while he was walking through the lobby.

Once Bell came closer, he heard words such as "Jew," "genocide," "Israel" and "Palestine". He claimed that the lady was "equating some random Jewish guy with what was going on in the Middle East, which is classic antisemitism". as per The NY Post.

Thereafter, Bell confronted her and questioned whether she was attacking the person just because she was "an antisemite". In reply, she told him, "...I love Jesus."

She started to swat his hand and even tried to kick him.

As Bell told her that she "messed with the wrong Jew today," the woman asked what he would do.

To this, he added that he would "act like a civilised human being" and "film" her act of "hateful bigot.”

Later, she said, "I demand Jihad! I want ISIS to kill all of you! I am conspiring with Hamas, Palestinian Jihad and with ISIS, I am conspiring with them!"

Bell said that this is what the Jews were "dealing with" in New York City.

The security at the building called the police, who took the woman into custody, Bell said.

Law enforcement sources told The New York Post that the woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation.

As of now, the Hate Crimes Task Force of the New York Police Department (NYPD) is probing the incident and consulting Manhattan prosecutors on possible charges against the woman.

While the woman told police that her name was Noora Bandoora, the Jew Hate Database group on X identified her with a different name. It added that she was the “director of government affairs" for a state chapter of CAIR.

Nine tons of cocaine were seized by the French Navy on a ship owned by Bilal Erdogan

The French navy intercepted a vessel linked to Bilal Erdoğan who’s the son of president of turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan off the coast of Martinique, seizing nine tons of cocaine in a massive drug bust worth over 3 billion dollars.

In response, the Turkish government has launched a crackdown on the press, arresting multiple journalists within the last 48 hours.

The arrests come as authorities seek to uncover the source of the leak that revealed the ship’s ownership, raising concerns over press freedom and government overreach in Turkey.

Jewish boy beaten in Rome by homeless Egyptian asylum seeker

A Jewish boy was attacked in Rome by a homeless Egyptian asylum seeker, the General Investigations and Special Operations Division (DIGOS) and Rome Police announced on Monday.

The minor, wearing a kippah, was with his mother Wednesday when the 33-year-old suspect allegedly approached and began to hit the victim.

A nearby shopkeeper attempted to intervene, but the suspect then attacked the good samaritan. The attacker took out a piece of a glass bottle and used it to attack the shopkeeper.

Security footage published by police shows the suspect lunging at the shopkeeper, attempting to overhand stab him with the glass shards. The shopkeeper attempted to keep the attacker at bay by shielding himself with a chair. Other men attempted to pull the attacker away.

Tracking him down

After the suspect left, the DIGOS and Rome Police officers reportedly tracked him down and arrested him for causing the permanent disfigurement of a person's face with an object.

Italian law enforcement said that the suspect was homeless, didn't have a prior notable police record, and had obtained international protection status in Italy -- indicating that he was an asylum seeker. The Police Immigration Office was reportedly assessing the man's status.

Serene Francie Rosenberg, allegedly kills 88-year-old with Range Rover while drunk: police

Authorities on Friday arrested Serene Francie Rosenberg, 48, who has three prior convictions for their alleged part in a DUI crash that left an 88-year-old man in Dana Point.

The crash, which involved a Land Rover SUV and a Ford Transit van, happened around 6:15 p.m. at Golden Lantern and Stonehill Drive, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

"The Land Rover was traveling westbound on Stonehill Drive and turned left against a red arrow signal in front of the Ford Transit van traveling eastbound on Stonehill Drive," deputies said.

Paramedics declared a passenger inside of the van dead at the scene. They have been identified as Melvin Joseph Weibel, of Dana Point. He was 88 years old.

"Mel has been an incredible friend," neighbor Christine Caudill-Goodhue said. "He's an amazing neighbor. He was so caring."

The driver of the van was rushed to the hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

The driver of the Land Rover, identified as 48-year-old Dana Point resident Serene Francie Rosenberg, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence with three prior convictions. They were booked for murder and DUI causing injury, OCSD said.

"I was heartbroken when I heard the news about this accident and this tragic death," Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris said. "I'm appalled to hear that this is the fourth time that this woman has gotten behind the wheel and sa

Why do you need to hire a cell phone hacker for your job?

Cell phone hacking is a deliberate act. The boy's phone was hacked only to get the victim's personal information and to manipulate. Again, many times it is used for other reasons. There are different types of people who hire hackers to hack boy's phones for different reasons. For example, to collect confidential data from parents, spouses, friends, investigative agencies, law enforcement services, or an anonymous person or monitor their activities.

These people have different reasons for hiring hackers for cell phones, the motives for hacking may be different. The causes can again be classified into moral and immoral as described below;

Parents are required to hire a cell phone hacker to monitor their children's activities without their knowledge remotely. The reason behind this is that they may accidentally get involved in cyber crime or do something that is not good for them. A hacker can track their phone activity and update their parents to ensure their safety. She can get access to deleted conversations, search history and children's call details.

Again employers are concerned about their company's credentials and contracts. There is a possibility that important information about their strategy, contract and future contract may be leaked. So he hires cellphone hackers to monitor his employees' activities outside his office so that the company can take necessary action in case of any fraud.

A cell phone hacker can access employee call details, conversations, social media accounts, record calls and give all details to the employer.

When the spouse has a belief problem in a relationship such as being suspicious of his partner, he can hire a hacker for the partner's mobile phone to find out the truth. The partner may cheat on the wife for someone else. The victim uses social media, or SMS services, for such scams.

A hired cellphone hacker can provide complete data access to the source of the information and the message. Helps the wife by telling the truth. Hackers access all necessary information from these sources. For example: call details, deleted and live conversations, and use them as proof of work. In some cases, the scenario may be different because the partner may be concerned about his partner's safety and hire a cell phone hacker to deter his partner from any fraudulent activity.

Investigative agencies need to hire cell phone hackers to know the depth of cybercrime cases. You can get the necessary information from these hackers who enter the target phone and access all the necessary details. These companies employ certified cell phone hackers to ensure complete security and full-proof investigation.

Law enforcement services unknowingly hire cell phone hackers and intercept signals around them, record calls, access data and monitor your activities through these hackers. But for this reason, hiring cell phone hackers is now more common among criminals and personal investigators.

These cell phone hacks are also possible through online hacking software, but hiring a professional hacker for cellphones stops targeting and accomplishes the task without personal involvement.
