A longtime Utah judge – who prides himself on his active
involvement with youth – allegedly sent sexual images and videos to young girls
on an online messaging platform, officials reportedly said.
Kevin Robert Christensen, 64, was nabbed Thursday after the
FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force uncovered several
sexually explicit chat threads with young children on his KIK account,
according to the West Valley City Police Department, multiple outlets reported.
The Box Elder County jurist’s sick chats date back to last
September, authorities said.
He is also accused of using the platform to discuss his
“vivid” and “detailed” interest in children with other adults, with whom he solicited
graphic images of minors, Longview News-Journal reported.
“The position of trust he holds in the community and the
actions he undertook while in this position significantly undermine the
confidence of the community in the legitimacy of the criminal justice system,”
the police report read, according to Fox 13.
Authorities launched their investigation on Feb. 28 after
learning that Christensen was using the platform to talk about sexually abusing
children – later finding a plethora of inappropriate chats with underage girls.
Investigators said the jurist allegedly engaged in “graphic
sexual chats” with a user who claimed to be a 13-year-old girl on Nov. 2, 2024,
ABC4 reported.
In that same chat, Christensen sent the minor a video of an
adult male performing a sexual act, Fox 13 reported, and later told the child
that their obscene conversations were “merely fantasy.”
In September, Christensen allegedly communicated with
someone who claimed they were a 16-year-old girl – sending the minor a lewd
image in return for one he received from the child, ABC4 reported.
“These actions show that the defendant is a clear danger to
the community,” the affidavit states, Longview News-Journal reported.
He was charged with two counts of enticing a minor, two
counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of dealing
materials harmful to a minor, all felonies, jail records show.
Christensen was appointed to the Box Elder County Justice
Court in May 1996. He worked in private practice before being appointed to the
bench, according to his bio.
The deranged judge, who is a graduate of Gonzaga University
School of Law, was awarded the Scott M. Matheson Award for outstanding service
to law-related education in 2006.
“In addition to his judicial and family duties, Judge Christensen
often speaks to various youth and civic groups about the structure and function
of the court system,” his bio says.
County officials reportedly placed the alleged perv on
administrative leave without pay following his arrest.
Christensen is being held without bail at Davis County Jail.
