There has been a further improvement in the condition of
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, 93, who is in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hadasah Ein
Kerem Hospital. He spent the Rosh Hashana holiday and the Sabbath in the
hospital, where his family is tending to him.
On Sunday, his condition will be evaluated and the hospital
will decide whether to free him to his home.
At the outset of the holiday, the hospital said that Rabbi
Ovadia is not being respirated and is in a state of full consciousness. In the
course of the week he received medical treatments including intravenous
antibiotics, and underwent thorough testing.
Rabbi Yosef fell inside his home several weeks ago, and has
been hospitalized three times since then, because of sharp back pains.
The rabbi's relatives ask the public to continue to pray for
the health of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef Ben Georgia.
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef is the spiritual leader of the Sephardic
Shas party, and considered a leading rabbinic figure and halachic (Jewish law)
authority by Jews throughout the world.
