The Jewish community was dealt a serious blow on Rosh
Hashana, with the Petira of R’ Shlomo Zakheim Z”L, one of the greatest Baalei
Chesed in this generation. He was 60 years old.
R’ Shlomo was well known as a remarkably charitable and
giving individual, who helped thousands of people financially and volunteered
with ambulance organizations and camps for children with cancer and other
special medical needs.
He was a particularly beloved supporter of Chai Lifeline and Camp Simcha.

He was a member of Flatbush Hatzolah for three decades, but
much of chessed was performed out of the public eye and without recognition.
Shlomo founded Metropolitan Ambulance in the 1980s and later
merged it with Transcare.
He utilized whatever success in business he
experienced for the benefit of others.
Thousands of tefillos were said over the last year for
Shlomo Eliezer ben Chaya Sarah Elka as R” Shlomo battled a rare form of the
dreaded disease that ultimately claimed his life on Rosh Hashanah.
The Levaya will be on Sunday at 1:00PM, in Shomrei Hadas
Chapels, 14th Avenue and 39th Street.
