Window Shot Out Of Car Carrying NY Assemblyman And Son, 7

BROWNSVILLE, NY — A car carrying State Assemblyman William Boyland Jr. and his 7-year-old son was hit by gunfire as it drove through the Brownsville section of East New York Tuesday night, according to police sources.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. at Saratoga Ave. and Sutter Ave. -- shattering the rear window of the car where Boyland's son was sitting. No one was injured, and, according to police, there are no suspects in custody.

Four shell casings were recovered at the scene, and a police investigation is now underway. It is unknown whether Boyland's car was targeted, or whether they were simply caught in crossfire.

Boyland is awaiting indictment after being charged in connection with a widespread bribery scheme allegedly run out of Albany by State Senator Carl Kruger.

Kruger was charged in April of a payoff scheme that brought in $1 million from hospital executives, a lobbyist and a developer during a battle between two hospitals to gain approval for expansion plans.

Boyland was charged with acting as an absentee consultant for one of the hospitals, Brookdale University Hospital, while Kruger allegedly pulled in bribes from Brookdale and its competition, Parkway Hospital.

More recently, Boyland was blasted for his insensitivity while passing an Aug. 2 vigil for Kira Goddard, the 13-year-old Brooklyn girl who was struck and killed by an out-of-control SUV. Boyland reportedly honked his car horn and waved toward the mourners, driving by without stopping.
