Avigdor Lieberman Stops Water Work near Breslav Tomb

The manager of the water company in the Ukrainian city of Uman promised, over the weekend, that tractors involved in an infrastructure project would leave the area near the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslav, according to the Hamevasser newspaper.

Yeshiva students in the area had demonstrated against the work, viewing it as a threat to desecrate the pilgrimage site. Attempts by local rabbis to contact the mayor were in vain because he was on vacation.

The international effort reached Israel, where religious and Knesset leaders turned to former foreign minister  Avigdor Lieberman to see if his pull would work through Israel's ambassador to the Ukraine and it apparently did, as witnessed by the weekend telephone call between the water company and the rabbi who couldn't reach the mayor.
