Italian tourist busted for trying to stiff steakhouse 'simply did not want to pay:' NYPD Commissioner Kelly

A tipsy Italian tourist tried to stiff a tony East Side steakhouse on his tab before his NYPD-assisted arrivederci, police sources said Friday.

Graziano Graziussi, who spend the night in jail after a dispute at Smith & Wollensky, was carrying $118 in his wallet on the night when he challenged the $208 check, said NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

The out-of-towner “simply did not want to pay,” Kelly said. “The restaurant wanted to proceed with a complaint, so proper procedure was followed.”

The 43-year-old attorney told the Daily News that he forgot his wallet before arriving for dinner at the Third Ave. restaurant.

“The moral of this story is that if you want a big steak, you better remember your big wallet, or you could end up in the big house,” said Andrew Moesel, spokesman for the New York State Restaurant Authority.
