Former yeshiva guard to stand trial on sex abuse charges

A former security guard has been committed to stand trial on charges of sexually abusing students at an ultra-orthodox Jewish school in Melbourne.

David Cyprys, 44, is charged with molesting 12 students from the Yeshiva College in St Kilda in 1984 and 1991.

The alleged victims were aged between seven and 20 years old.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court has ordered Cyprys to stand trial on 41 charges including rape, indecent assault and gross indecency with a child.

In committing him to stand trial, Magistrate Luisa Bazzani thanked all of the witnesses for their conduct in court but she said found the evidence of the rabbi, who was the principal of the school, that he did not know of the allegations at the time was unfathomable.

He has pleaded not guilty and has been released on bail to face the County Court next month.
