60,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews fill Citi Field

A mass rally for men only drew more than 40,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews to Citi Field Sunday to denounce the Internet and its pervasive impact on family life.

An overflow crowd of another 20,000 bearded men sporting long black coats and big black hats filled nearby Arthur Ashe Stadium for the unprecedented attack on modern technology.

Unable to enter the Queens stadiums because of the strict separation of the sexes enforced by the organizers, more than 15,000 Hasidic women watched the speeches at six sites across the tristate area — thanks to live-streaming on the Internet.

The rally was organized by a little-known rabbinical group called Ichud Hakehillos L’tohar Hamachane — the Union of Communities for the Purity of the Camp — to spread the word that online activities can lead to porn, child abuse and other acts of immorality.

But Eytan Kobre, who runs a Jewish family weekly magazine in Brooklyn and serves as the group’s spokesman, insists it is not calling for a ban on Internet use, but wants to use filters to manage it.

“With one click, all of a sudden, you lose control and are whisked away to a world you never intended to see, and it overtakes your life,” he said. “As a community, we are asking, is it worth it?”

Kobre cited social media like Facebook and Twitter that he argues can lead people away from prayer, community and family and cause social ruination.

“I know that Facebook ruins marriages,” he said.

The No. 1 message of the rally is to protect children from a world where unbridled freedom can be destructive, said Dr. Reuven Weinstein, 58, a dentist from Flatbush.

"We want a clean Internet,” he said.

  2. At first : this wasn't ment to "fix" the problem with the internet!!! It was called for a few reasons , 1. To bring out the problem for "everyone" including people who never had net , they should be aware of it of the dangerisnes, 2.the pray to GOD he should help us .. And he should axept our teshuva . And finaly 3.to bring out the "pesak" lehalacha that we can only have it with a filter .so my dear freind; wy wouldt u like calm down and don't b so mad at the world.

  3. It's not a question of being "mad" or angry. Every intelligent individual is aware of the dangers of modern technology. But at the same time we all know that simple matches are dangerous as well. Common sense must be used matches can burn a house down, fire can kill people. Will we stop cooking or lighting fires to heat our homes? It's called common sense, if you want to pray and hope the advancement of modern society will go away, you are simply naive. We no longer store the moon in a barrel of water, the ignorance of the dark ages is history. Use the internet constructively, ie to report "religious" molesters to the proper athorities. Learn Daf Hayomi online listen to a Shiur etc. If you want to be a "praying mantis" it your priviledge but don't be naive to believe that prayer will disconnect modern technology. The filthy molesters attacking children in the mikvah will NOT be cured by prayer. They need tained professional assistance to overcome the disease. You cannot restrict the world at large with your fanatic beliefs, the rabbinical molesters were not trained on the internet. Use an Asifa to educate parents of the dangers of sick individuals and keep molesters out of the mikvah. Make the Orthodox world aware of these dangers, pornography is available in any form one wishes to obtain such material. Prayers are a cheap form of professional psychology and psychiatry, crying over a prayer book will calm your mind but will not repair the problems of the world.
Wake up and smell the coffee "my dear friend"

2."NOT EVRYONE" is aware of of the the reall danger of internet.(Atleast by the chasidisha croud)
3.No one is saying to stop cook/use net, u can defenitly use it, there is a lot of good things in it,like daf yoimy..or to report malesters.. BUT just use it with a filter that's all !!!
    3. Yes prayer can help us live our lives like a real jew , like GOD wants us to live. And to b able to hold back all the nisyonos, with siyata dishmaya . Yes no one is perfect and averone can have hard times, bust that doesn't mean that hashem can't help us to move on and b erlich.. "AND B ABLE TO CONTINUE TO HAVE INTERNET WITH A FILTER" not without it,
Finaly: yes there r a lot of problems in our comunity like malestation curroption.. And you may argue that this problem is more sirius then the other, so y are we BZ with the internet..?
So who ever was there at the kinas yestreday, understands the concepts of the asifa..
So MY DEAR FREIND its maby not a matter of mad or angry, rather its a matter of understanding y this asifa was made .

  5. First and foremost you must learn to master the english language. Your writing skills are that of a naive Hasid.
Go ahead bang your head against the wall "SHOKEL" all you want. Your part of a dying breed, action speak words, words do not speak actions. This asifa cost a bloody fortune, money that could have been used to help some poor families, or at best to attepmt to educate fanatics like you. All your frummy "friends" can continue to shokel and soak in the mikvah with innocent little children. Maybe a psychological filter will be of benefit, as you find praying and mikvah so holy. You seem to be suffering from CEREBRAL FECALITIS, if you can repeat that ask your physician what it means. I am not your friend and do not appreciate be addressed as such.
There are many religious groups through the world, no-one with any level of inteligence has come together to fight the advancment of modern technology.

Finally what's a frummy like you doing online? go to the mikvah
