Monsey - Woman's body found outside home after snow melts

Ramapo police found the body of a 55-year-old Ramapo resident in the backyard of 7 Ellish Parkway

MONSEY — The sun melted away the snow today and revealed a dead body lying on the wet lawn in the backyard of a Ellish Parkway house, Ramapo police said.

The 55-year-old woman rented an apartment inside the house at 7 Ellish Parkway, off Maple Avenue, police said, and lived alone.

The woman’s landlord looked outside her rear window into the backyard and saw the body , Ramapo Sgt. Chris Franklin said.

Ramapo police went to house after being called at 8:41 a.m. The police were assisted by the Rockland Paramedic Services and the Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

“The thawing of the snow pretty much led to her discovery,” Franklin said. “Obviously this is not something you want to see looking out your window.”

Foul play is not suspected in the woman’s death, Rampo police Detective Sgt. John Lynch said.

The woman likely died of natural causes but an official cause of death will come from the Medical Examiner’s Office, Lynch said.

Police have not confirmed the woman’s medical history, but her background will be part of the medical examiner’s investigation and determination of what caused her death.

“At this point, there is nothing suspicious,” Lynch said. “We’re awaiting the cause from the M.E.”

Police speculated that the woman died just before or during the snow storm that hit the area early Saturday morning.

“The indication is this occurred just prior to the snowfall or during,” Franklin said. “The medical examiner will provide the answers.”

Several cars were parked in the driveway and there were lights on inside the home about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, but several knocks on the front door went unanswered.
