Police reopened their investigation into the 1984 disappearance of a 15-year-old girl as a result of Facebook chatter.
Kelly Morrissey, who was last seen at a gas station on Merrick Rd. on the night of June 12, 1984, was one of several girls to have gone missing around the same time.
But unlike the other two girls, whose bodies were discovered after they were raped and murdered, Morrissey was never found, police said.
Reminiscences on a Facebook page devoted to the Hot Skates roller rink in Lynbrook – where Morrissey had been earlier that evening – may yield new leads in the case, Det. Lt. John Azzata, head of Nassau County’s homicide squad said at a press conference today.
"We do not have specifics," he said, but former employees and customers at the rink who may have information are being asked to come forward.
"They might have some tangible piece of evidence," Azzata said.
Police would not indicate if there is any suspect in the case, but said they’re hoping that 26 years later a witness who "may have been afraid of someone who abducted Kelly" will be finally able to come forward.
"We are asking them to look deep down in their soul and help kelly’s parents," Azzata said.
