Jerusalem - Israeli news service Kikar Shabbat reports that a Tel Aviv court has sentenced Benzion Miller to three years behind bars today for his part in the drug smuggling episode that landed three chareidi yeshiva bochurim from Bnei Brak in a Japanese jail in April 2008.
The three bochurim were told that they were being paid $1000 each to bring antiques from Holland to Japan and were unaware that there was 3.6 million dollars worth of illegal substances hidden in a false bottom of the suitcases given to them by Miller. Customs officials in Japan immediately noticed that something was amiss and all three were taken into custody and later imprisoned.
Miller was found guilty after the parents of all three boys testified against him. The parents of the three imprisoned boys told Kikar Shabbos that the Miller’s sentence was too light and expressed dissatisfaction with today’s ruling.
Miller was arrested for allegedly providing the three with the drug laden suitcases. The bochurim claimed all along that Miller, who was involved in a drug smuggling ring, asked them to take the suitcases from Holland to Japan without telling them that there was a wealth of illegal substances hidden inside the suitcases.
In a hearing for Yosef Bondo, the youngest of the three boys who is now being held in a Beer Sheva prison, Bondo did not hesitate to cast the blame squarely on Miller’s shoulders.

ReplyDeleteפרשיית הסמים הסעירה את הציבור בישראל בכלל ואת הציבור החרדי בפרט: בן ציון מילר, שהתקשר עם מספר בחורי ישיבה, הצליח לשכנע אותם, תמורת סכום כסף זעום וכרטיס טיסה, להעלות על מטוס לכיוון יפן, כשבדרך הם יקבלו מזוודות בהן כביכול נמצאים פריטי יודאיקה.
מיד עם מעצרם של שלושת הבחורים - בונדו, גולדשטיין וגרינוולד - בשדה התעופה ביפן, כשברשותם כמות אדירה של סמים, טענו השלושה כי כלל לא ידעו כי המזוודות מכילות סמים, וכי נאמר להם שעליהם להעביר עתיקות לסוחרים במדינה.
היפנים לא השתכנעו כי הבחורים אכן תמימים ולא ידעו מה מסתתר בין דפנות המזוודות. משפטם של שלושת הבחורים התנהל ביפן, ובימים אלו יוסף בונדו, אחד מהעצורים מרצה את עונשו בישראל. עצור אחר מרצה את גזר דינו ביפן, ואילו משפטו של השלישי עדיין מתנהל.
יצוין, כי בונדו הועבר לישראל בשל גילו הצעיר מאוד - 16 - ועל כן נעשו מאמצים מצד עסקנים רבים להביאו למעצר קרוב לבית, כך שלפחות את ביקוריו יעשה במחיצת משפחתו.
כאמור, היום גזר בית המשפט את העונש על מי שתיווך ושלח את הבחורים להעביר את המזוודות - בן ציון מילר.
מילר ירצה עונש של שלוש שנים בכלא.
"זו פשוט בושה. שולחים בן אדם שהרס לבחורים צעירים את החיים לכלא רק לשלוש שנים?! זה לא הגיוני", זועמים הערב עסקנים המטפלים בבחורים בפרשה.
"אני לא מבין את החלטת בית המשפט. הוא היה המפתח בכל השליחות שעשו הבחורים התמימים", הוסיף אחד העסקנים.
בראיון סוער שהעניק הערב הרב אבא דונר, מנכ"ל ועידת רבני אירופה, לבני מחלב ב'קול הציבור', הוא אומר:
"הוא היה צריך לקבל 10 שנים! זה ממש נורא. אני במקומם הייתי שולח אותו ליפן, ומחליף אותו בבחורים. הם ישנים לבד בחדר, מילר ידע מה שהוא עשה. אני לא נכנס להחלטות שמיים, אבל בכל אופן, ליבי עם הבחורים וזה לא פייר שהוא קיבל רק שלוש שנים.
"לקחת בחורים מישיבה ולעשות כאלה דברים? אפילו השופט ביפן אמר שאם הסמים היו מגיעים לרחוב, זה היה יכול להיות מאוד מסוכן. מי ששולח כאלה דברים, הוא יודע מה הוא שולח.
"בסאטמר יש אחריות והם צריכים לטפל בו. אותו מילר יש לו קשר טוב לחסידות. הוא היה הנהג של האדמו"ר, כשהוא הגיע לארץ. לא שמעתי אותו מבקש סליחה מהבחורים ומהמשפחות, לפחות את זה הייתי מצפה ממנו.
"אנחנו מקווים שבערעור, גרינוולד ייצא נקי, היה לנו קשה שהוא קיבל 6 שנים בכלא. אחרי שנתיים בפנים והתנהגות יפה, נקווה שזה יספיק. אני חושב שהשופט יבין ששש שנים זה הרבה.
"למילר יש שופר וארבעת המינים - להם אין מה לאכול. לסיום אני רק אומר, שזה כואב לי. לו יש אוכל כשר. אתה לא מאמין מה קורה ביפן. אני הייתי מושיב אותו 10 שנים בכלא".

HaShem please have mercy on all of us. I think that Benzion Miller amvsh ought to volunteer to do the time in jail on behalf of all 3 bochrim plus his own sentence. It is only fair. Doesn’t the halachah (Jewish law) state that when a person goes to bais din (court) and lies in order to hurt another person = and then the court learns that this person lied = that the lier gets the punishment that he was attempting to throw onto another person? Yes, this is the halachah = therefore, Mr. Miller, by cheating and hiding items inside the suitcases of these young men = knowing full well that they can get caught and placed in jail (on his behalf), it is as if he lied to keep himself clean and free. Mr. Miller ought to go to Japan and stay in the jail for the three boys = and when he finishes his sentence, he can come back to New York to do his time in America. These incredibly senseless crimes must stop. And they won’t until we demand it. Stop hiding behind your peos (earlocks), stop hiding underneath your yahrmulkes (skull caps). Stop concealing yourself in the long coats and vests that you wear so “proudly” to proclaim to Yidden (and goyim) alike, that, hey, look at me – I’m a frum Jew, I represent the Torah, etc. This is deceitful to himself, his family, and to All Jews. It is even deceitful to the goyim. I want to have sympathy for him. I want to empathize for him, but please tell me why, why would you do such a thing – to yeshivah boys, to your family, to yourself, to everyone? Was it the money, go get a regular job. Was it the thrill, go ride a roller coaster. Stop playing with other people, stop telling lies to yourself and to others. It’s the season of tshuvah .. Mr. Miller it’s time to get crackin’.
