Detectives are investigating an incident in which John A.
"Junior" Gotti, the son of the late "Dapper Don" John
Gotti, was apparently stabbed Sunday night in the parking lot of a CVS drug
store in Syosset, N.Y., authorities said today.
"The Nassau County District Attorney's can confirm they
are investigating, in conjunction with Nassau County Police, an alleged
stabbing of John 'Junior' Gotti," a spokesman for the district attorney's
office told ABC News.
Gotti, 49, reported he was breaking up a fight between
strangers, but so far cops have nothing to back that up, according to an
official briefed on the incident. Police were notified of the incident about
9:45 p.m. Sunday, after Gotti drove himself to Syosset Hospital.
Gotti, the former acting boss of his father's Gambino crime
family, was transferred to North Shore University Hospital from Syosset
Hospital. Gotti has been released from North Shore hospital.
So far, Gotti has declined to cooperate with investigators
or assist in the investigation, police said.
"He's being very uncooperative," an official told
ABC News. "He says these guys were fighting and he jumps in and is this
big savior and he gets stabbed in the stomach."
Gotti sustained a stomach injury, but cops don't know how
severe it was.
Detectives are collecting security camera video from the
scene.
