Both MSNBC and CNN-owned Headline News showed Trayvon
Martin’s dead body Friday during coverage of the trial surrounding his death.
The two networks reportedly only showed the picture of the
Florida teenager’s lifeless body for a split second, but a stealth viewer
spotted it and snapped a picture which was then emailed to several websites.
The picture, which has been passed around the internet like
a live grenade, shows Martin face up, in the grass, wearing a dark hooded
sweatshirt, what appear to be khakis and red and white sneakers.
Aired during the 2pm hour of pool coverage of the sensation
trial, MSNBC quickly cut to footage of prosecutor Bernie de la Ronda, according
to Mediaite. Not sure what would happen next, the network blurred the entire
screen for about 10 seconds, the site reported.
Upset viewers took to Twitter to vent their outrage over the
blunder, causing MSNBC anchor Tamron Hall, who clearly didn’t realize what had
just happened, to deny the airing before admitting the gaffe, tweeting ‘I
didn’t see it flash… such an awful mistake!’
News networks often rely on pool coverage for trials,
according to Mediaite, causing them to not always catch incidents they would
normally sensor.
The incident happened shortly before the trial concluded and
the jury was sent to deliberate on George Zimmerman's fate.
